Member of Computational Team

Full-Time

Palo Alto, CA

We’re Exai Bio.

Our mission is to deliver the earliest and most accurate diagnosis of cancer. We aspire to enable a world where cancer can be detected early, diagnosed accurately, treated in a personalized and targeted way, and ultimately cured.

We are a lean, R&D-stage startup developing next-generation, AI-powered cancer detection assays. Our platform integrates proprietary deep learning AI modeling with unique, large-scale cell-free DNA and RNA datasets to enable earlier, more accurate cancer detection. We operate with a "small team, broad impact" philosophy: each team member is entrusted with system-level ownership and decision-making responsibility.

And we’re expanding our Computational team.

Our core work spans three domains: Machine Learning, Bioinformatics and Software Engineering. We are seeking highly motivated, versatile professionals with demonstrated expertise in at least one domain and the capacity to grow rapidly to become key contributors in additional areas.

The Domains We Navigate

1. Machine Learning

  • Design, optimize and validate deep-learning models for cancer detection using large-scale, high-dimensional biological data.
  • Translate biological insights into modeling strategies.
  • Support model interpretability, robustness, and validation in regulated or translational research contexts.

2. Bioinformatics:

  • Develop and validate bioinformatics methods to identify biological signals and translate them into features for cancer detection models.
  • Perform statistical and computational analyses for QC and biomarker discovery, interpret results and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to assay development/optimization, study design and data-driven decision-making.

3. Software Engineering:

  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reproducible and efficient scientific discovery.
  • Develop tools and services that support experiment tracking, reproducibility and quality control.
  • Perform software validation and documentation in research or regulated diagnostic contexts.

How We Work

We believe a small team can operate with speed, precision and efficiency by leveraging modern productivity tools. We expect you to:

  • Broaden Knowledge Base: Harness new biological concepts and technical skills outside your primary expertise rapidly.
  • Accelerate with Logic: Leverage AI coding agents for implementation. You focus on architectural rigor and system logic.
  • Think Critically: Act as the ultimate auditor to identify subtle AI-generated hallucinations in code or scientific reasoning before they reach our systems.

Who You Are

  • Proven ability to drive end-to-end development on major projects.
  • Strong experience in programming languages such as Python (primary), C/C++, Rust, R.
  • 2-5 years experience in industry or academia in at least one of the three core areas (Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Software Engineering).
  • Relevant conference/journal publications or a portfolio of significant open-source/industry projects.
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with the exception of a medical or religious exemption.

What You’ll Get as Part of Our Team

  • Some highlights from our suite of comprehensive employee benefits:
    • Medical/dental/vision insurance with generous premium coverage for employees and dependents, and employer contributions toward HSA accounts
    • Accrued vacation time and sick days starting at 24 days a year
    • Hybrid team structure with remote work flexibility
    • New hire stock option grants
    • 401(k) with company match
    • Annual base salary range for this role: $130,000-$170,000

What We Value

Our core values represent what we stand for as a team. Everyday, we strive to align our behaviors to these core values in everything we do. We believe that our commitment to our core values connects us to our work and to one another.

Integrity – Our thoughts and actions are true to science and people. We do the right thing.

Openness – We recognize and respect our differences – and embrace learning from them.

Teamwork – We are team players who trust and respect each other.

Exploration – We are explorers, putting curiosity into action.

Kindness – We are kind whenever possible – and we believe it’s always possible.

More About Us

We are an early-stage diagnostic company with a powerful oncRNA and AI-based liquid biopsy platform. Our proprietary technology delivers unprecedented insight into cancer and disease biology from standard, non-invasive blood samples. We are the next generation of liquid biopsy!
